Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the things people ask most

Short answers below, organised by topic. If you need more detail on a particular feature, the Help page has full walkthroughs. If your question isn't here at all, contact us — we read everything that comes in.

General

What exactly is BingeAway?

A personal watchlist for films and TV shows, with a small social layer for friends and groups. You track what you've watched, what you want to watch, and what you're mid-season on, then rate, review, and discuss with people whose taste you actually trust.

How is BingeAway different from Letterboxd or Trakt?

Letterboxd is film-only and built around public reviews; Trakt is feature-rich but quite technical. BingeAway sits between them — films and TV equally, episode tracking and a release calendar built in, and small private groups instead of a public timeline. It's also UK-built and GDPR-native, with non-personalised ads or an ad-free paid tier.

Is BingeAway free?

Yes. The free tier lets you track up to 25 films and TV shows, create one public list, and join one public group, with non-personalised contextual ads. Paid tiers start at £1.99/month and remove ads, raise the limits, and unlock the Binge Calendar, episode tracking and Binge Partners.

What's the minimum age?

16. BingeAway isn't designed for children and we don't knowingly process data from anyone under 16. Accounts found to belong to under-16s are removed.

Is BingeAway available outside the UK?

Yes — you can sign up from anywhere and the service works globally. Pricing is in GBP and we operate under UK law. Your data is processed by UK and EEA-based providers only; we don't ship data to processors elsewhere.

Free Trial & Pricing

Do I have to give a card to sign up?

No. New accounts include a 7-day Binger trial automatically, with no card required. After day 7 you drop to the free tier unless you choose to subscribe.

Will the trial automatically charge me?

No. We don't take card details at signup, so we can't auto-charge anyone. The trial expires by dropping you to the free tier — you only get charged if you actively choose to subscribe at some point during or after the trial.

How much do the paid tiers cost?

Binger £1.99/month, Power Binger £3.99/month, Binge Master £5.99/month. All prices include applicable taxes. Full feature comparison on the pricing page.

Can I switch tiers?

Yes. Upgrades take effect immediately and prorate the difference. Downgrades take effect at the next billing cycle, so you keep the features you've already paid for until then.

How do I cancel?

Profile → Subscription → Manage billing → Cancel. Paid features remain active until the end of the billing period you've already paid for, then you drop to the free tier. We don't issue partial refunds for unused days unless required by law.

Do you offer annual billing or family plans?

Not at the moment — subscriptions are monthly only and per-user. We're listening on annual and family options; if either matters to you, drop us a note via contact.

Ads & Privacy

Are the ads personalised?

No. Free tier ads are non-personalised contextual ads served by Google AdSense. They're based on the content of the page, not on your viewing history or any profile of you. Paid tiers see no ads at all.

Does BingeAway sell my data?

No. We don't sell, rent, or share your personal data with marketing partners. The only third parties that process your data are our hosting provider (UK), Stripe (paid subscribers only), Google Analytics (anonymised), and Google AdSense (free tier, non-personalised). Full detail in the Privacy Policy.

How do I export or delete my data?

You can request a copy of your data or delete your account from Profile → Settings, or by emailing DPO@Amven.uk. UK GDPR rights apply — we respond within one calendar month, usually faster.

Can I turn off advertising cookies?

Yes — click "Manage Cookie Preferences" at the bottom of any page (or in the cookie banner when you first visit). You can switch analytics and advertising cookies on or off independently. Essential cookies (the login session) cannot be disabled because the site can't function without them.

Features

Where does my film and TV data come from?

Films pull from TMDB (The Movie Database). TV shows pull from TVmaze. Both are free, community-maintained databases. If a poster, title, or air date is wrong, it's usually a data issue upstream — but you can override it on your own copy by editing the item in your watchlist.

Can other people see what I'm watching?

Only if you share it. Your watchlist is private by default. Lists you mark as public are visible to other BingeAway users; private lists are not. Reviews you mark as public appear on your profile and in aggregate ratings; private reviews don't.

What's a Binge Partner?

A Binge Partner is someone you watch a series alongside, even if you're not in the same room. You see each other's progress, can leave reactions on individual episodes, and get notified when the other catches up. Bingers get 1 partner; Power Bingers get 3; Binge Masters get 5.

Can I track the same show across rewatches?

Yes. Your "first watch" review and date stay tied to the original watch. Rewatches are tracked separately so your timeline reflects when you actually watched what.

Account & Technical

I didn't get the email verification link.

Check your spam folder first. Add DPO@Amven.uk to your contacts so future emails land in your inbox. You can resend the verification email from the banner at the top of the dashboard. If it still doesn't arrive, email us.

I forgot my password.

Use the "Forgot password?" link on the sign-in screen. We email a reset link valid for one hour. If you don't receive it, check spam, then contact us.

Is there a mobile app?

BingeAway is a web app — it runs in the browser on phones, tablets, and desktops. There is no native iOS or Android app yet. You can add the site to your home screen on iOS or Android for an app-like experience.

How do I report a bug?

Use the Bugs button in the bottom-right of every page — it captures the page, your browser, and any console errors automatically. If the bug stops the bug button from working, email DPO@Amven.uk with a screenshot and the URL.
